Youth Activist Committee
We are a group of about 30 high school students from around Northern California who are interested in learning more about activism and social justice. The Youth Activist Committee is open to all high-school age youth in Northern California. Every other week we get together to educate ourselves on social justice and civil liberties issues that matter to us. We then take what we learn and bring it back to our peers through workshops, conferences, presentations, activism, and advocacy. We plan an annual youth rights conference, student activism projects, and a week-long civil rights summer exploration tour. Why do we meet?
When and where do we meet? The Youth Activist Committee meets every other Sunday afternoon from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Free pizza, beverages, and snacks are served at our meetings. We meet in downtown San Francisco at the new ACLU office at 39 Drumm Street. It’s just one block from Embarcadero BART and MUNI, and easy to reach by public transit. Directions below. Register for the Youth Activist Committee and come join us! When are the upcoming meetings?
If you are joining us for the first time, please RSVP with Danielle Silk at dsilk@aclunc.org or (415) 621-2493 ext. 368 and register using the link above.
Can I get community service hours for being on the Youth Activist Committee? Yes, community service hours are available for committee members. In addition to the Youth Activist Committee, the Friedman Youth Project coordinates classroom and community presentations for high schools on a range of civil liberties topics, plans an annual student teacher activist retreat, and trains school teachers and administration on ways to address bias and discrimination and create safer campus environments for students. How do I get more info on the Friedman Youth Project or the Youth Activist Committee?
