Sacramento – ACLU California Action and the ACLUs of Northern California, Southern California, and San Diego & Imperial Counties are prepared to meet the Trump administration head on. David Trujillo, executive director of the ACLU California Action, responded to the reelection of Donald Trump with the following:
"Through the hateful rhetoric and harmful actions of the previous Trump administration, they have made their intentions clear.
“We have diligently prepared for this outcome and remain resolute in our defense of California values by protecting immigrant families, defending the right to protest, reducing incarceration, criminalization, and police abuse, bolstering resources for unhoused people, and guaranteeing equal rights for the LGBTQ+ community.
“Our advocates have worked to create a roadmap for protecting civil rights and civil liberties in this outcome. It will take everything we've got to fight back, and we are ready.
“We call on all people – especially our state officials and legislators – to work with us in building a firewall for freedom that will protect and advance the safety and wellbeing of all Californians.”
