Every year in California, thousands and thousands of people are jailed while they await their trial simply because they can’t afford to post bail. In a state where the median bail amount is $50,000, it’s no surprise that many people simply can’t afford to buy their freedom in this broken system. SB 10 would help fix that.
In 2017, Governor Brown and the state's Chief Justice both committed to working with the Legislature to reform California's bail system and get it done in 2018. SB 10 passed out of the Senate and is now up for consideration in the Assembly.
