San Francisco City Hall

San Francisco residents are grappling with important civil liberties issues including the arrests of unhoused people, the need for emergency shelter and affordable housing, alternatives to incarceration and policing, police accountability, and privacy protections. And all of these important issues are on the ballot this November. But it can be hard to keep track.

To help with that, the ACLU of Northern California sent a questionnaire to every candidate for mayor of San Francisco who qualified to appear on the ballot. Our goal is to inform you about their position on pressing civil liberties issues impacting the city. Read their responses at the links below. The answers have been provided by the candidates and have not been edited by us. ACLU NorCal is non-partisan. We do not endorse candidates, nor do we take positions for or against candidates. We are sharing the responses to this questionnaire with you for educational purposes only.

The questionnaire is intended to give you a better understanding of where these candidates fall on critical issues impacting your civil rights and civil liberties. We entrust those elected to serve our city to make decisions that significantly impact our lives. It is crucial that you understand the candidates’ positions on key issues facing San Francisco so that you can make an informed choice on who to vote for.

Encourage every candidate to respond to our survey using this form.
