Samantha May (she/her)
Samantha May is a paralegal at the ACLU of Northern California. In this capacity, she supports both the Criminal Justice Team and the Technology and Civil Liberties Team in active litigation and advocacy matters.
Prior to joining the ACLU, Sam spent nearly a decade working as a paralegal at various law firms, ranging from family law to employment law to personal injury. She previously volunteered with the Immigration Institute of the Bay Area (IIBA), where she translated documents for Spanish-speaking clients in support of their immigration cases, and helped prepare English and Spanish materials for IIBA’s immigration clinics.
Sam earned her paralegal certificate from the ABA-accredited paralegal studies program at CSU East Bay. She is a member of the San Francisco Paralegal Association (SFPA) and the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. Sam graduated with highest honors from UC Davis, earning a B.S. in human development, a B.A. in Spanish, and a minor in professional writing. During her undergraduate years, Sam wrote protocol manuals and administered informed consent in both English and Spanish for university-affiliated research labs and health clinics.
Outside of work, Sam enjoys spending time outdoors – whether hiking, skiing, camping, or biking – with her partner and their dog, Leila. She also loves reading, traveling, enjoying live music, and spending quality time with friends and family.
